Troubleshooting common DSL problems.

 
How to Troubleshoot common DSL problems
  1. DSL IS Down - Not able to Browse or Check Email:
    • If you can Check Email but not open web pages then Internet is up or Vise Versa.
  2. Reboot DSL modem (unplug power cord)
    • (All Lights should be Green when it come back up. Can take 1min sometimes.)
  3. Reboot DSL Router if your have one (unplug power cord) (
    • Wan Light Should be Green - This is the connection from the DSL Modem to Router)
    • If Multiple Computers are on DSL and one can browse - DSL is Working.
  4. Reboot Computer (Start Shutdown)
     
  5. Confirm DSL Modem Lights are ON (DSL modem wiring diagram here)

    Frame Circuit - Fijitsu Frame Modem - Grey - (Need Picture) -              All Lights on and Green - Modem Ok
    Power Light - If Off then no power or bad modem
    Middle Light (sync)- If Off or Blinking call Verizon to reset circuit
    Right Light - If Off Call Verizon to reset circuit (Need Circuit Number - Same as Phone number)

    ATM Circuit - SpeedStream Efficient Networks - Black (Need Picture)
  6. All on and Green Blinking - Modem Ok
    If SYS light is off - No Power or Bad Modem
    If Enet light is off the modem does not see customers computer (ethernet is down)
     
  7. Call Verizon and have Circuit Reset
    • If Problem Persists keep reading.

     

  8. If All Lights are on:

    Left Click on Start then Run, then type:command press enter

    At Prompt type:
    c:\ipconfig /all

    Ethernet adapter 209.84.125 Nic Card:

    Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
    IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 209.84.125.27 (customers Ip
    Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 (customers Subnet)
    Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 209.84.125.254 (customers Gateway)
    (sometiimes customer will have 2 nic cards and it is ok for the 2nd to say media disconnected)
    Ethernet adapter Wireless Ethernet Card:


     
  9. Confirm the Ip Address, Subnet Mask and Default gateway are correct

    Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

  10. If Media is disconnected
    • Network Cable to Network Card is unplugged
    • Network Card is disabled or bad
    • Network Cable is not plugged into DSL Modem
  11. Confirm Dns Server Ips are correct.
  12. Ping the following server to see if a response comes back.
    C:\>ping 64.162.116.33

    Pinging 64.162.116.33 with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from 64.162.116.33: bytes=32 time=21ms TTL=244
    Reply from 64.162.116.33: bytes=32 time=22ms TTL=244

    Ping statistics for 64.162.116.33:
    Packets: Sent = 2, Received = 2, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
    Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 21ms, Maximum = 22ms, Average = 21ms
